Fire Emblem Awakening

It has been a very long time since I last enjoyed any type of video game.  Finally, something was released that piqued my interest enough for me to actually purchase one.  In this case, it is the newest Fire Emblem game for my long forsaken 3DS.  Despite never actually ever finishing a single FE game, I have always enjoyed the series over the years.  This latest one being my favourite.

My purchase method for this game was very new to me in that it was a day one purchase through the built in Nintendo eShop.  I had read online that several retailers were not able to secure their copies for release day and since this was a highly anticipated game, I decided to try an online purchase.  Truth be told, I was actually too lazy to walk to the store after work to check if they have any copies in stock.  The purchase process was quite straightforward and I did not encounter any issues.  My only complaint is that the online price is the same as the physical copy at $39.99 CAD.  The download took about an hour and a half as this is quite a large game.  Online bought games are stored on the SD card and this game seem to be about 1GB in size.

Upon booting up the game, I was surprised to see a full motion video intro in a Nintendo made game.  Not only that, it was also fully voiced as well, with the option of English or the original Japanese languages for the FMV sequences.  In game voices are all in English.  As with its predecessors, this is a turn based strategy game.  The basic formula have stayed the same throughout the years but there were many additions to this game that I had not seen before.

The one aspect of the FE series that I always liked was the fact that if a unit dies in battle, that particular unit is truly dead and cannot be resurrected again. Many people will say that a turn based strategy game are not difficult should give this game a try since every move made really counts.  In order to attract a new audience, the developers have included an easier mode so that dead units are not permanently lost.  I will stick to the old formula in my playthrough.

Although I haven't been able to get very far in this game, I am really enjoying it so far.  With a very large cast of characters to recruit and several DLCs released, I think I will be playing this game for several weeks to come.
